Helping children with Autism achieve their full potential through coding.

Here at Coco Coders we pride ourselves on being understanding and inclusive, creating a world where anyone can achieve their full potential, regardless of their abilities or background.

As we enter Autism Awareness Month, our founder Elizabeth shares her own story of how coding has had a profound impact on her autistic sons life.

“Hi everyone! I’m the proud founder of Coco Coders and I’ve been passionate about coding and technology for as long as I can remember. Although there were challenges to overcome, coding has transformed the life of my autistic son, who is now 14 years old. We embarked on our journey when my son turned five and right from the start, I was amazed by the natural affinity my son showed towards coding.

As an autistic child, he faced challenges in communication and social interactions. Being on the autistim spectrum, it was initially difficult for him to adapt to the traditional learning environment. Coding provided a structured environment that allowed him to express himself creatively without the constraints of social norms, with lessons that fit his learning style. Over the years his confidence and self-esteem have skyrocketed and his problem solving skills have improved tremendously.

The logic and patterns in coding helped him make sense of the world around him, enabling him to navigate life with greater ease

I discovered the benefit of breaking down complex tasks into smaller, manageable steps, using visual aids

I learned first hand that patience, consistency and encouragement are crucial when teaching autistic children

Celebrating even the smallest of achievements played a significant role in boosting my son’s motivation to keep learning.

Coding has also opened up new social opportunities for my son. He has made new friends in the coding community, both online and offline and has gained a sense of belonging. A once-reserved child has blossomed into a confident, talented teenager and I firmly believe that if it weren’t for coding, he wouldn’t be the confident and capable young man he is today”.
